Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe there?
We have never had any harm come to the groups that have stayed with us. It
helps that they are staying with a large number of Christians who are very
familiar with the area. We also have several guidelines that would not leave
anyone by themselves. Ultimately, we can thank the Lord that He has always
protected us.
What will we need to bring?
Basically everything you would need for a long sleepover. We have hot showers
and mattresses, but you need sleeping bags, shampoo, towels, Bibles, work
clothes (including long pants and closed-toe shoes)...
We also recommend bringing at least one set of clothes that could be trashed
if you got involved in a painting project, for instance.
How many people can come?
Up to 27 for the one dorm with the possibility of 12 more in the second dorm.
Maybe a couple more to make an even 40 for a tight maximum. Call ahead for
availability!
How many leaders need to come?
Ideally, you should have one leader for each five kids. More if your group
is particularly young.
What is the cost to stay?
We ask for a $25 per person per night fee which will cover room and board.
The fees help us pay for the dorms, food, project supplies, and office supplies.
If this amount poses a hardship for some of you students, please call to discuss.
The Deposit?
We do ask for a non-refundable deposit eight weeks before you plan on arriving.
This gives us a commitment from you, before we turn down other groups wishing
to come on your time slot. The deposit is deducted from your total, which
is due before you leave. Deposit amounts are listed on the visitor form. Unused
deposits can be used for future trips if you need to cancel.
How long can we stay?
That's up to you, and the availability of space. Typically, Spring and Summer
break groups come for about a week at a time with groups turning over by Sunday.
Can we come to church with you?
Absolutely! We meet in a large room on the first floor of our building at 10am
each Sunday.
Is there parking?
Only on the streets. However, we will personally assist you in finding a good
parking place. Large busses will find it difficult to park in our neighborhood.
However, we own a parking lot 4 miles away where you can park it, if you don't
mind leaving it parked during your stay.
Can we serve or go other places while staying there?
Yes. Often, groups will find it enriching to expose their groups to other
ministries while in Chicago. We will provide as many work opportunities as
you want, but we can be quite flexible with our scheduling. You also may want
to take advantage of your stay to do some sightseeing in Chicago. We may have
some good suggestions for you. Talk with us. We want to make your trip a great
experience for all involved!
